WILLIE HENDERSON

Dumfries Saints Rugby are saddened to hear of the passing of club stalwart Willie Henderson.
On moving to Dumfries from the Stirling area in the early 80’s, Willie soon found his way to Park Farm, where he developed into a hard working second row.
He progressed to captaining the 3rdXV, usually packing down with his brother Alex in the second row. Willie took the captaincy role very seriously and developed a great team spirit, built around the players enjoying each other’s company, both on and off the field.
At this time, the club were trying to develop the facilities at Park Farm and Willie, an excellent host/organiser, held memorable barn dances at Dalruscan to raise funds.
When he retired from playing, he involved himself in coaching his son Scott at mini level and was delighted to see four of his squad progress to Saints 1stXV.
He then became a loyal supporter of Saints 1stXV, travelling the length and breadth of the country to support son Kenneth, a prolific try scorer for Saints.
Rest easy Willie.
